Slice of Heaven

I had a slice of Heaven the other day at Grinders on 18th St between Oak and Cherry. This slice was called Goldberg "Phats", and it was amazing! Pesto sauce, cream cheese, smoked salmon and capers, not to mention the crispy thin crust that makes all of Grinders' pizzas to die for. This is a pizza that I definitely need to try at home!

Grinders, featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives, serves up specialty New York-style pizzas, Philly cheese steaks, burgers, sandwiches, salads and wings.

The Filling Station

I tried out a new little coffee and sandwich shop last week that I heard about called the Filling Station, at 30th & McGee. I had driven past it several times, thinking it looked fun, but I always thought it was just a coffee shop. Well I was wrong, and I started hearing great things about their lunch, so I gave it a try.

It was a fun kind of eclectic crowd, some drinking coffee and studying, some just grabbing a quick lunch. There is indoor and outdoor seating, with a rustic feel inside, and a great Ipod playlist going! Any lunch spot that plays Lil Wayne has my vote!

We had the Caprese sandwich on an awesome french loaf, loaded with arugula (my fave) and a roast beef sandwich on Asiago bun. They have fresh daily soups, so we tried the tortilla soup, which was amazing!

I definitely recommend this place, as a coffee stop or a new lunch spot. Check out their Web site for a full menu.

Happy Gillis

I had lunch last week at a cute little restaurant called Happy Gillis Cafe & Hangout. It is on the corner of Gillis and Pacific, near the historic Columbus Park.  The restaurant is located in the old Gillis Sundries, and the original sign still hangs.  



Not only is the restaurant vintage and unique, the food was great! Happy Gillis has different soups/sandwiches/salads daily (along with their set menu) , made fresh right in front of you. I went with the sandwich special, a ham, goat cheese and green apple panini. It was so delicious. My mom got the curry chicken salad sandwich, and it was great also! (I know what I will be ordering next trip). I wouldn't say I had buyers remorse, because I loved mine too, I just want the whole curry chicken salad sandwich next time.

Lunch at West Side Local

Today I went to lunch with a great friend of mine who is visiting from out of town. She asked me to take her to a cute place in downtown Kansas City. I was having a hard time coming up with a location until my roommates told me I should take her to West Side Local, which was awesome for me because it is walking distance from my work!

 

This restaurant is definitely a place you want to check out! Emma and I both sat outside on the patio...the weather was beautiful and our arugula salads with salmon were delicious! West Side Local is a restaurant that supports local farmers and businesses...what's better than keeping it local!
