For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world – Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces, in Columbia Pictures' new sci-fi action-thriller “World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles.”
As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant (Aaron Eckhart) and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.
Directed by Jonathan Liebesman, “World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles” stars Aaron Eckhart (“The Dark Knight”), Michelle Rodriguez (“The Fast and the Furious”) and Bridget Moynahan (“The Recruit”).
A film like “World Invasion” defies genres – it has elements of action, science fiction and war thrown into one. And that's exactly what attracted most of the cast and crew to the project.
"I grew up on these types of movies," director Jonathan Liebesman shares. "War movies and science-fiction films are my favorite. Whether it's `Braveheart' or `Alien', or `Terminator.' And here you get to meld the two."
But Liebesman is very specific about which genre comes first: "It's not an alien movie that happens to have soldiers. It's a war movie with aliens."
That spirit is also what drew Aaron Eckhart, who plays Staff Sergeant Michael Nantz in the film. Sgt. Nantz leads a platoon of marines into the City of Angels after it comes under attack by invading aliens. "I did this because of director, Jonathan Liebesman," Eckhart says. "I felt that he wanted to make a realistic war movie, and that's what I wanted to do."
Opening soon across the Philippines, “World Invasion: Battle Los Angeles” is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Pictures Releasing International.
